- Not Luckett
Some researchers say she was was daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Luckett (almost certainly all from here: "Meshack Turner III - His wife Sarah Robey Tucker" by Lucille Rynard Maddox says Sarah Luckett was daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Luckett. She was sister to Samuel E., Thomas, Ignatius, and possibly Benjamin Luckett and Elizabeth Cooper.) Meshack Turner III - His Wife Sarah Robey Tucker" by Lucille Rynard Maddox says Sarah Luckett was daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (------) Luckett. She was a sister of Samuel E., Thomas, Ignatius Luckett, and (possibly) Benjamin Luckett and Elizabeth Cooper. Land Records Charles Co., MD, Vol O # 2, f 357. Testamentary Proceedings, Vol 30, f 376. (from Mike's old site, but noted as disputed) But I don't think there is any evidence cited or explanation given to justify the "fact," and there is much to question it. But I think I know where it started:
Charles County Land Records, Liber C#2 Page 156 "15 Feb 1709; Recorded at the request of John Roby; mark and heifer given to his son Peter Roby by Samuel Luckett" (From Mike Marshall's old site)
No one thinks Peter Roby was the son of Samuel Luckett. Could have have been a son-in-law or godson? Are there any other records tying Samuel Luckett to this Robey/Roby family?
Also from Mike's old site: Ignatius, son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Hussey) Luckett was born 30 Jan 1689; brother Samuel was born 10 Oct 1685; and brother Thomas was born 12 Aug 1688. This from Book Q #1, containing Birth Records of Charles County, MD. If Sarah was a Luckett, and since she was born cir 1668, this might make her a sister of the Samuel who was the father of the above named sons, but in any event, it looks as if she might have come from an earlier generation than those supposed to have been her brothers. Although she might have been a daughter from a previous marriage of Samuel. "Samuel's service from 1672 to 1677 pretty much lays to rest the notion that he married a woman named Sarah and had a daughter in 1670. Samuel left a will that does NOT mention any daughters or any Robey grandchildren."
But there is absolutely no conceivable way Sarah was previously married to Samuel Luckett (the dates couldn't work) nor is she his sister (the ages, dates, and everything we know about them says no--the Lucketts have written histories of their family, none of them claim Sarah Robey in any way). I think Peter Robey was Samuel Luckett's son-in-law and the heifer was the dowry (though Peter had no kids or wife when he died so she must have died before him, and there is no existing record of a wife).
For that matter, where do we get Hines? I'm guessing from here: Charles County Liber L#2, Page317. At the request of Sarah Roby of CC, widow, the mark of her son, Michael Hinds Roby was recorded Oct 11, 1726. Harry Wright Newman (noted Southern Maryland historian/genealogist, author of many of the authoritative books) thought Sarah was a Hinds/Hines (I think based basically on the naming pattern in the family of "Michael Hinds/Hines" Robeys).
