Sarah Rachel Fuller was born in 1850 at Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, daughter of a sawyer named Charles Fuller and his wife Mary Ann. She was born as Sarah, baptised as Sarah Rachel and appears in the 1851 and 1861 censuses as Rachel.
In 1870, aged 19, she married a plait dealer named David Hill, who was a widower. He was about 60 when they married, so it was quite a pronounced age difference. Indeed, Sarah was younger than even David's youngest child from his first marriage. David was from King's Walden in Hertfordshire, and Sarah and David settled there, living at Breachwood Green. They appear to have had at least two children together.
David died in 1886, aged 76. He and Sarah had been married for 16 years. Sarah appears in the 1891 census still in Breachwood Green with her two children and a servant. She was working as a plait merchant.
In 1895 Sarah married again. Her second husband was an insurance agent called Edward Knight, who appears to have been a few years younger than her. They appear together in the 1901 census at Breachwood Green. They later moved to the town of Hitchin, where they appear in the 1911 census living at 45 Kings Road.
Sarah died in 1933, aged 82.
