| MRS S. A. McALPIN
The Lansdowne district lost one of its oldest and most highly esteemed residents on Friday evening, when Mrs. Sarah Ann McAlpin passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs G. Edmonds, of Taree. She had not been well for some months, and the end was not unexpected. The late Mrs McAlpin was the only daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Edward Drury, and was born at Jones Island 84 years ago. Her girlhood was spent at Ghinni, and after marriage to Mr Duncan McAlpin they lived at Cundle Plains for a few years, and then moved on to a farm at Central Lansdowne. and remained in that locality for the remainder of their lives. Mr McAlpin passed away about six years ago. The late Mrs McAlpin was a lady whose happy, generous nature won for her the love and respect of all who came into contact with her. While her main interests were centred in her home and the well-being of her family, she was at all times ready to help her neighbours, and to give practical support to worthy causes. She had a life time association with the Methodist Church, and was always true to the principles of her faith. Mrs McAlpin is survived by one son, Mr Andrew Mc- Alpin of Bootoowa, and six daughters Mesdames Elsie McKay (Moorland), Stan Emerton (Jones Island). Charles Barlin (Lansdowne), Harold Emerton. (Jones Island), Geo Edmonds (Taree), and H. Tolson (Lansdowne). One son, Gordon, died at the age of nine years. Her surviving brothers are Messrs Charles Drury (Glenthorne). William and Jonas Drury (Taree), Edwin Drury (Moto), Andrew Drury (Lansdowne), Alfred Drury (Taree). Harold Drury (Hannam Vale), and Stan Drury (Bowraville). Two brothers George, of Lansdowne, and Nathaniel, of Pampoolah. predeceased her. At 1.15 pm. on Sunday Rev A. E. Frede conducted a service at the Taree Methodist Church following which the cortege proceeded to the Dawson cemetery, where the interment service was conducted by Rev F. Paton assisted by Rev A. E. Frede The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr W. T. Howard.

The death of Mra. Sarah Anne McAlpin, which occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mm George Edmonds, of Railway St., Taree, on Friday night last, leaves another gap in the band of pioneers of this district of whom death recently, has been taking such toll. The late Mrs McAlpin was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Drury, of Lansdowne. and her family has been associated with the district since its early days. She was born at Jones' Island and was 84½ years of age. For the past two years she had not enjoyed good health and had been an inmate of hospital on several occasions. The deceased, who had lived in the Lansdowne district practically all her life, was married to Mr. Duncan McAlpin, of Cundle Plains, who predeceased his wife about six years ago. During the first part of her married life she lived at Cundle Plains, and later her husband went to Lansdowne,, where deceased lived most of her life. In more recent years she had lived with her daughters in Taree and on the Lower River. The late Mrs. McAlpin, who was held in high esteem, was a staunch member of the Methodist church at Lansdowne for many years. She was a devoted wife and mother, and is survived by one son and six daughters: Andrew (Bootoowaa), Mrs. McKay (Moorland), Mrs S. V. Emerton and Mrs. H. Emerton, of Jones' Island; Mrs. C. Barlin (Lansdowne), Mrs. Geo. Edmonds (Taree), Mrs. A. Tolson (Lansdowne). Another son, Gordon, is deceased. She is also survived by the following brothers: Charles Drury (Glenthorne), Wil- liam (Taree), Jonas (Taree), Edwin (Moto), Thomas (Central Lans- downe), Alfred (Taree), Harold (Hannam Vale), Allan (Bowraville). Two other brothers, Nathaniel and George, are deceased. The funeral, which was very largely attended, took place on Sunday afternoon leaving the Taree Methodist Church after a service conducted by the Rev. A. E. Frede, for the Dawson cemetery, where Rev. F. Paton officiated, assisted by Rev. Frede.
