Sarah Cross was baptised on 20th March 1796 at Cassington in Oxfordshire, daughter of Nathaniel and Mary Cross.

On 20th December 1824, aged 28, she married an agricultural labourer called John Goodman at Willen in Buckinghamshire, nearly forty miles north-east of Cassington. The following year they returned to Cassington to have their first child baptised there, although the family's abode was given as Willen on the baptism record, suggesting that they were only visiting.

They returned to Willen and had another two children baptised there in 1827 and 1829.

Sarah died at the age of 33, and was buried at Willen on 18th February 1830. John survived her by over fifty years.
