Mrs. S. Melissa C. Rogers, wife of Dea. Lester T. Rogers, of this village, died suddenly of heart failure last Thursday, the 5th inst. She had been declining in health for ten months previous, but her demise was not expected so soon. She was born in De Ruyter, N. Y., April 25, 1825, and was consequently 69 years old, lacking 20 days, at her death. She was the daughter of Dea. Pardon and Esther Coon, the eleventh of twelve children, all of whom but her two brothers have now passed away. She was married to Dea. Rogers, April 8, 1854, just forty years prior to the day of her funeral. She joined the church at De Ruyter in her girlhood and transferred her membership to the Rock River Seventh-day Baptist church in 1856, when it was organized. About a year and a half after her marriage she and her husband settled on a farm three miles west of the Junction; and after living here ten years they removed to this village, where they have since made their home. Three children were born to them: Delana F., who resides with her father; Benedict W., who practices medicine in Oakland, Cal.; and Elizabeth A., who died ten years ago. The funeral services were very largely attended, and were conducted by President William C. Whitford, assisted by Rev. J. T. Davis, of Chicago, and Rev. G. W. Burdick of Milton Junction.
