Immigrated in 1896 from England, probably with other members of her family, but Martha can only remember hearing about her mother being accompanied by her brother. No one knows what her brother's name was or what became of him.

She was a naturalized citizen in the 1920 census. The census records show they resided at 290 Ninth in Brooklyn.

Martha said that, as adults, they hired a private investigator to see if Sarah could be found. She remembered that the investigator reported that she might have died in a hotel fire, but that was a bit hazy and there were no details.

Frank and Sarah separated in 1921.
