  2.   The McCorkle Family Roots site says: "We have never seen any proof of Sarah's maiden name. The Buchanan assumption is based mainly on the fact that Patrick Buchanan was an executor for Sam's will and Mary Buchanan was a witness. Also, the close association of the Buchanans and McCorkles in Augusta and Green Counties provides more circumstantial evidence. Patrick Buchanan was probably the son of John Buchanan whose will was proven 20 Apr 1790. His 22 Oct 1776 will names his wife Margaret, but he did not name a Sarah although she was surely alive at this time. Another possibility is Samuel Buchanan who first lived in Augusta Co., then moved to Washington Co. where he died testate with a will dated 11 Oct 1774 and proved 18 Mar 1783. VA. His will names his wife Martha & sons John, Samuel, Andrew & Robert; however, he did not even mention any daughters. Since Samuel & Sarah McCorkle had a daughter Martha, we think Samuel Buchanan is a better guess."
