Obituary - Howard, Kansas Paper

  Santford Ulysses Grant Anderson, the elest son of W. H. and Susan Anderson was born in Bath County, Kentucky, January 18, 1866, and passed away at his home in Howard, May 31, 1940, age 74 years, 4 months and 13 days, after one week of serious illness.
  He came with his parents in 1884 from Kentucky and since has made his hom in and near Howard.  He was stockman and farmer with partnership interests with his friend Judge A. T. Ayres for twenty years.
  Later he moved to his home on the east edge of Howard, where he farmed on a small scale as long as his health permitted.
  He was converted in Kentucky when he was 17 years old and baptized in LIcking River.  He united with the Methodist Church at Howard in 1913, Rev. T. A. Nichols being his pstor at that time.
  He was united in marriage to Alta J. Andrews in 1890.  To this union three daughters were born:  Mrs. Olive Vice of Wichita, Mrs. Bertie Wisner of Howard and Mrs. Edith McClure who passed away February 1921.  He was a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge 42 years and the Order of the I.O.O.F., 35 years.
  He had lots of friends and always enjoyed them in his home.
  He leaves to mourn his departure, his faithful wife of the home, two daughres, two sons-in-law, Leslie Wisner and R. J. Vice, who patiently cared for him in his last illness.  Also ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter, Kay Arlene Wisner, three sisters Mrs. Lydia Kling, Mrs. Emma McKirahan, Mrs. Mary Hubbell, two brothers, H. N. Anderson of Howard and R. A. Anderson of Kansas City, Missouri, and a number of nephews and nieces of whom he was very fone.
  Funeral services were held from the Muthodist Church in Howard, Sunday June 2, 1940 at 2:30 p.m. conducted by the pastor, Dr. T. Restin Heath.  Burial was in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard, Kansas
  Santford Anderson, one of older settlers, locating here in the early Eighties, was an industrious, hard working man, struggling under difficultites and ill health of late years.  He had followed farming as a livelihood as long as physical strength permitted.  Mr. Anderson had suffered a third stroke recently from which he was unable to rally.  His wife and chilren have the sympathy of the entire countryside, where he had lived for so many years.  His funeral last Sunday was largely attended, the church thronged by those desiring to pay their last respected to their friend "Sant" Anderson as he was known to them throughtout the year of his life.
