Advisory on Samuel Wilson

Caution: some sources claim that this Samuel Wilson died in the Battle of Point Pleasant in 1774, but as the approx. 1803 deposition shown below in Augusta County, this Samuel Wilson died after 1800, most likely in 1810 according to other sources. The Samuel Wilson that died at Point Pleasant was the son of John Wilson and Mary Marcus.

Possible Sibling of Samuel Wilson

It is suspected that James Wilson may be related (possible sibling?) to Samuel Wilson. More research necessary.

Records of Samuel Wilson in Augusta County, VA

From Chalkley’s Augusta County Records:

  • Thompson vs. Ingles--O. S. 46; N. S. 16. William Ingles, son and heir of Thomas Ingles, who was brother and heir of John Ingles. Deposition of James Burk as to settlement of Burke's garden by the Ingles and Pattons. Thomas and John Ingles settled there about 1749; they were brothers. William Ingles, only son of Thomas, built a cabin, but did not settle there. Thomas had another son, who was a seaman; was never married and died at sea. William Ingles was heir to John Ingles, who had no family. He was killed before the death of Thomas, who was his eldest brother. He was married, but left no children. (Samuel Wilson's deposition, aged 67, 23d February, 1800.)

Information on Samuel Wilson

From Ancestry.com post:

In his book, Virginia Frontier, F. B. Kegley states that James Burke's daughter, Rebecca married Samuel Wilson of South Fork. This apparently is a mistake as James Burke in his will names his daughter Sarah Wilson. Sarah and Samuel Wilson lived in Bedford County. They had two (known) children: Mary (Polly) Wilson who married Capt. John Lucas; and Theodocia Wilson who married Captain Benjamin Johnston.
