THE ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-NINTH REGIMENT Was organized at Camp Chase, mustering in on September 28, in 1864. Many of its men had seen previous service. Reporting in Nashville, Tennessee,on October 8, 1864, it was placed on post duty there, assigned to the Second Brigade, Fourth Division, Twentieth Army Corps. A part of the regiment took part in the Nashville battle, December 15th and 16th. The regiment remained on duty at Nashville till mustered out in June, 1865.Ordered to Columbus, the men were there paid and discharged, and the regiment was disbanded on June 27th.Number of men in different organizations from Jackson county: 179th O. V. I.____________126 History Organized September 28, 1864, under Colonel Harley H. Sage, for one years service, it moved to Tennessee. The Regiment was present at the battle of Nashville in December and remained on duty there until the expiration of its term of service.It was mustered out June 27, 1865. From Dyer's Compendium179th Regiment Infantry. Organized at Camp Chase, Ohio, and mustered in September 29, 1864. Ordered to Nashville, Tenn., arriving there October8. Attached to Post of Nashville, Tenn., Dept. of the Cumberland, to December, 1864. 2nd Brigade, 4th Division, 20th Army Corps, Dept. of the Cumberland, to March, 1865. Post of Nashville to June, 1865.SERVICE.--Engaged in post and garrison duty at Nashville, Tenn.. October,1864, to June, 1865. Battle of Nashville December 15-16, 1864. Mustered out June 18, 1865.     Another Ex-soldier Dead
    S.W. Wills, 75 years of age, died at his home in West Wellston Monday afternoon about three o'clock. Mr. Wills had been married twice and was the father of sixteen children. He has a wife and twelve children living. the funeral service will be held at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. White of Coalton officiating.
