Granary Burial Ground, G222 (on stone with Abigail, Joseph & Sally C.] [Note the inscription for Sally Collins Whitney, wife of Joseph, son of Samuel, says "erected to the memory of His Father and Mother by their only child", i.e., by a grandchild of Samuel after the fact. His actual burial is elsewhere.] Samuel Whitney Son of Benjamin & Abigail Whitney Born in Marlborough Mass Sept 5, 1734 Died at Castine, Me. May 29, 1808 Aged 74 Years.

Vol. 5:204 Will of "Samuel Whitney of Castine", dated 8 Dec 1806, proved 26 Jul 1808, names wife Abigail ["who for more than fifty years hat h been a most true and faithful friend and companion to me"], daughter Abigail [includes payment legacy due her "whereas my beloved and lamented Sister Abigail Austin late of Boston deceased did during her last sickness request me to pay to my well beloved daughter Abigail Whitney the sum of fifty pounds annually out of the estate she bequeathed to me"], grandchild Abigail the daughter of my deceased son George Whitney, daughter Sally Whitney, residue to be distributed to and among all my Heirs. Wife to be executrix. Vol. 2, p. 108 26 Jul 1808: Letters of administration cum testamento annexo granted to Samuel Austin Whitney of Lincolnville Merchant since Abigail Whitney named & appointed by Samuel Whitney late of Castine Gentleman deceased as Executrix declared her refusal to take upon herself the trust.
