    "176. Capt. Samuel4 Welles, Jr. (Samuel3, Thomas2, Gov. Thomas1), born 26 December 1693 in Hartford, Connecticut (Barbour citing VR D:19 and FFS:24); baptized 31 December 1693 (Hartford First Congregational Church Records, slip index citing [1:172); and died 2 March 1760, at age 66 according to his headstone in Center Cemetery, East Hartford, Connecticut (Hale 108). … Samuel Welles was appointed Lieutenant in the Fifth Company, Hartford in (October 1738 (Col. Recs. 8:191); and the Captain of that company in October 1750 (Col. Recs. 9:554).

    The will of Samuel Welles of Hartford was dated 26 February 1760 and proved 6 May 1760. He names his wife Esther; sons Samuel, John, and Jonathan; and daughters Esther Hunt, Ruth White, Anna Diggins, Hannah Reynold, and Rebeckah Welles (Hartford Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 5853). His estate proved insolvent. The widow received her dower share of household goods and the creditors received a percentage of what was owed to them (Nutmegger 40:523-524)."
