Joseph Judson and Sarah Porter (TAG 21:269), born 22 October 1664 in Stratford, Connecticut (Barbour citing LR 1:49); and died 2 May 1744 in Hartford, Connecticut, at age 80 (FEH 658). Ruth Welles was admitted to full communion at the First Church in Hartford in 1687 (FEH 658). …

    Ruth's will was dated 9 September 1741 and proved 4 September 1744. It names her grandson Samuel Bewell [sic, Buell], granddaughter Hannah Pitkin [sic, should be Buell], grandson Thomas Pitkin, grandson Welles Ely, son Samuel Welles, and daughter Sarah Clark; son-in-law John Clark and son Samuel Welles are appointed executors. The will was witnessed by John White, John Cornwell, and Sarah Burton (Manwaring 3:473-474, citing 14:142)."

    Welles, Ruth, Hartford. Will dated 9 September, 1741: I, Ruth Welles of Hartford, do make this my last will and testament: My debts and necessary charges being paid, I give to my grandson Samuel Bewell £30, to be paid to him when he arrives at the age of 30 years or shall be settled in the work of the ministry. This I give to my grandson Samuel Bewell and to his heirs forever. I give to my granddaughter Hannah Pitkin £30 of money, and to her heirs forever. I give to my grandson Thomas Pitkin £30, to be paid to him at the age of 22 years, to him and his heirs forever. I give to my grandson Welles Ely £30, to be paid to him at the age of 22 years. I give to my son Samuel Welles and my daughter Sarah Clark, after my four grandchildren above mentioned have each of them £30 as above mentioned, all the remainder of my moveable estate, equally divided between them. I appoint my son Samuel and my son-in-law John Clark executors.
