In the year 1794, Samuel and Hannah came to Bedford County, Pennsylvania, presumably from York County, Pennsylvania, and bought 317 acres in St. Clair Township from George Woods. He purchased this tract of land for 200 lbs. Hannah's brother, Robert, bought a tract of land joining Samuel's. On October 6, 1814, Samuel sold his land to Absalum Wall for $8,000. Between 1814 and 1817, Samuel bought 5 or 6 different farms. At his death in 1821, he left each one of his children a farm. Samuel built several of the early mills in Bedford County including the one at Weyant, Pennsylvania. which was built in 1807. The "Mansion Place" as it was known, Samuel bought from Thomas Griffith on October 25, 1816. It contained 178 acres before being divided for $3,733.33. It was part of a larger tract of 508 acres belonging to Francis Campbell. This farm was divided at his death. He had in his will where the boundary lines were to be run. One part was to be for his son James and the other half to his son Samuel. Samuel was to live with his brother, James until a house was built for Samuel. It is interesting to note this farm remained in the Way family until February, 1977. References
