Samuel Stoner was the son of Jacob and Magdalena Stoner.
The Stoner family lived in Anne Arundel County and later moved to Frederick County, Maryland. He later migrated to the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia with other relatives. Two of his sisters married sons of Elder John H. Garber of Flat Rock, Shenandoah County : Rebecca, who married Martin Garber, and Marian "Molly", who married Samuel Garber.
Samuel Stoner married Hannah Albaugh of Timberville, VA. In 1814, he built and operated a mill several miles northwest of present day Timberville off Route 881 on what is known today as Andrick Mill Road. As of 2006, the original mill is still standing. The Stoner house, which is located across the road from the mill, is fallen down in ruins.

Hannah Stoner, wife, and Joel Stoner, son, are also interred here. The exact relationship of Samuel Stoner to the others in this cemetery is not known.
