Samuel D. Sinclair and Sarah Florinda Coup were divorced by 1867. He drank to excess.

He was a dentist. There are two unconfirmed stories about him: he was seen in Orrville sometime during 1880, and that he was in Wellsville, Kansas in 1885 or 1886. On one of those occasions, it was reported that Samuel talked briefly with his son, Ellsworth, without revealing his indentity. Ellsworth was only a few months old when his father left home, so he would not have recognized him.
