  7. In his will of 1802, Solomon LONG is reputed to have acknowledged and provided for his son, Solomon, "bastard gotten of Nellie AUSTEN". If this claim is accurate, Edward SHORES is not the biological father of Solomon SHORES, although he is acknowledged as Edward SHORES' son in Edward's 1847 will. This situation may account for the given name Solomon, not common in male SHORES, and the fact that Solomon, although the eldest of Edward's acknowledged sons, was not made the executor of his estate and did not inherit his father's land.
