    District of West Tennessee
    Samuel Sarrett aged sixty-four a citizen of Bedford County in the State of Tennessee
    came before me and claimed to be placed on the pension list of the United States in consequence of his Services as a soldier in the revolutionary war – And after being duly sworn deposeth and saith that he enlisted in the fall of 1777 as a soldier in the Continental Service under the Command of Captain William Lytle in the 6th North Carolina Continental Regiment commanded by Colonel Gideon Lamb, Brigade Commanded by General Francis Nash. That he enlisted as aforesaid for three years and faithfully served the said term, was taken prisoner before his term elapsed and continued a prisoner until the end of the war, so that he never received a discharge but then returned home. That he is a very poor man not worth one hundred dollars,
    Circumstances so reduced as to stand much in need of aid from Government. That he is very
    infirm and unable to labor for his livelihood, having a wife and two children very small to
    support. That he never had any pension from the United States or any State.

    [Wilson Sarrett, a nephew of the veteran gave a supporting affidavit as to the need for support and the value of the veterans property.]

    Major Howell Tatum of Davidson County in said State made oath that the applicant has given
    him a most minute and particular account of the Army & its movements more so than any with
    whom he has conversed so that he has no doubt but that his statements in the foregoing affidavit are true.

    In addition to what was formerly done I caused John Sarrett to come before me and he made oath that he is well acquainted with the circumstances of the applicant Samuel Sarrett, that he is a very poor man, and very much needs the aid of his country, and further states that he was in service of his country for several years as a continental soldier during the Revolutionary war.

    The applicant further states that he did serve in Sheppard's Regiment till it was reduced at Valley Forge, that Sheppard's Regiment was the 10th North Carolina Continental Regiment, that his Captain's name while in that Regiment was James Wilson, that he served about 18 months in that regiment until [it] was reduced & then served in the first North Carolina Regiment.

    [p 10: On March 8, 1852 in Habersham County Georgia, Nancy Sarrett, aged 81, made
    application for a widow's pension under the 1838 act stating that she is the widow of Samuel
    Sarrett, a pensioner of the United States at the rate of $96 per annum; that he died on or about April 1, 1821; that she married him May 24, 1792 on the line between Person and Caswell Counties in the state of North Carolina; that they were married by John Womack, JP; that she has not remarried but remains the widow of the pensioner; that her name prior to her marriage was Nancy Johnston. She signed her application with her mark.]

    [p 22: On September 8, 1852 in Gilmer County Georgia, George Brock, 83 and Fanny Brock,
    84, gave testimony that they were well acquainted with Samuel Sarrett when he lived in Caswell County North Carolina; that he was a Revolutionary war soldier; that they were well acquainted with the veterans father Joseph Sarrett and the family generally; that Samuel Sarrett married Nancy Johnston; that Samuel and Nancy had the following children, Joseph, James, Samuel and Hosea [sic]; that Samuel emigrated to Tennessee where he died.]
