Samuel Rogers was baptised on 17th June 1787 at Quethiock in Cornwall, son of Samuel Rogers and his wife Phillippy. Young Samuel's next sighting is when he was 23 years old, when he married Sarah Harry, who was from the neighbouring parish of St Ive. However, they did not marry locally, but at Stoke Damerel, over the Tamar into Devon.

After their marriage they returned to Quethiock, where they had at least six children. In both the 1841 and 1851 censuses Samuel and Sarah and their children were living in Quethiock, with Samuel working as a tailor.

Samuel died in 1856, aged 68. Sarah outlived him by 21 years.
