Pettebone, Samuel, Simsbury. Died 11 February, 1747. Invt. £1172-18-03. Taken 4 April, 1747, by Joseph Case 2nd, Benajah Humphrey and David Phelps. Will dated 20 August, 1746.
I, Samuel Pettebone of the Town of Simsbury, in the County of Hartford, do make this my last will and testament: For the love I bear to my well-beloved wife Judith, I do give unto her the use and improvement of 1-2 of my dwelling house and half of my orchard and 1-3 part of all the rest of my real estate during her life; and also the sum of £30 equal to old tenor bills of credit and 1-3 part of all my personal estate to be her own forever. I give unto my son Samuel £10 in value equal to old tenor bills of credit. And all the rest of my estate, real and personal, I give to be equally divided to and amongst all my children: my sons, Samuel, Jonathan and Isaac, and my daughter Hephzibah. And my will is that my daughter Hephzibah shall have her portion paid to her out of my moveable estate if that be sufficient (after my wife’s dower, before mentioned, and my debts are paid); and if that be not sufficient, then the remainder of her portion to be set out to her in my real estate or paid to her by my son Samuel one year after my decease. And whereas, I am become bound in several bonds for debts due from my son Samuel, my will is that if I or my executors are obliged to pay any money on the sd. bonds, the sum or sums which shall be so paid on sd. bonds by me or my executors out of my estate shall be accounted as part of my sd. son Samuel’s portion. I appoint my sons, Samuel, Jonathan and Isaac, to be executors.
