Notes of Caution
- Savage (1860)1 and later Barbour (1977)2 have Col. Samuel Partridge marrying 2nd the widow of John Atwater of Salem.
- Dwight (1874)5 claimed that Savage was in error, stating that it was Samuel, the son of Col. Samuel, who m. Atwater's widow and claimed that the father m. (2) 28 Dec 1731 widow Hannah Edwards, "probably" widow of Nathaniel Edwards of Northampton.
- This claim is supported by the Northampton Vital Records which show that the widow of Nathaniel Edwards m. (3) Hon. Samuel Partridge Dec. 28 1731 at Hatfield. (AmericanAncestors.org , Walter E. Corbin Collection, p 2259)
- Starr (1891)6 agreed that the widow Atwater married the son Samuel but didn't recognize a second marriage for Col. Samuel, stating that Mehitable Crow was the first (and only) wife.
- Andrews (1900)7 agreed with Dwight (1874).
