- Samuel was the sixth of seven children. His parents were Henry Jonathon and Rachel Flory Miller. He married Mary A. Miller (from another Miller family) in 1822 and they had seven children: Sarah, Carolyn, Catherine, Daniel M., Samuel M., Mary and Susannah. He was a fuller by trade in a woolen mill. Samuel helped to build the Summit Mills Brethren Church and he and Mary gave the church the deed for the land where it was built.
