About Samuel McClung

Samuel McClung was born on 17 Mar 1818 in Rockbridge Co, Virginia. He died on 9 Apr 1891 in Fulton Co., Illinois. He was buried in Astoria Cemetary, Fulton Co. Illinois. On June 11, 1840 Samuel was united in marriage to Margaret Haffner, to them were born four children, two sons, Andrew and Granville, and two daughters, Mrs. Wm. H. Merrill, and Mrs. Falkenstein, deceased. In the autumn of 1852 Samuel McClung and family in company with Thos. Bryan and family, Daniel Haffner and family moved in wagons from Augusta county Viginia, to Fulton county Illinois, arriving at Astoria on the sixth day of November. They settled on a farm about three miles southeast of Astoria where they continued to reside until they moved to Astoria. In 1853, Mr. and Mrs. McClung united with the United Brethern church under the labors of Rev. O. F. Smith, and remained faithful members and earnest Christians to the close of life.
