    Samuel Jacob Lowery, 83 of Alanson, died April 27, 1997, at the Emmet County Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs.
    Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, at the Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. The Rev. James Gerber of the Brutus Mennonite Church will officiate. Burial will be in Littlefield Township Cemetery, Alanson.
    Mr. Lowery was born March 28, 1914 in Wells, Minn., the son of Samuel Arthur and Elizabeth (Peters) Lowery. He grew up and attended school in Alanson.
    Mr. Lowery served during World War II in Africa, Italy, Germany and France.
    On Sept. 21, 1946, he married Thora Sadler in Alanson.
    He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Mr. Lowery was a life member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners.
    Survivors include his sons, Max (Kitty) Lowery of Las Vegas, Nev. and Samuel (Kathy) Lowery of Alanson; daughters, Marciel (Norman) Mitchell of Huntington Beach, Calif. Deanna (Fail) Bunker of Indian River, and Judy (Don) Feutz of Grand Rapids; sister, Della Brubacher of Pellston; 24 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
    Mr. Lowery was preceded in death by his wife; daughter, Nancy Ford; and brother, Oliver Lowery.
    The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Emmet County Medical Care Facility. Envelopes for memorials are available at the Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, where visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 29.
