"His [Jonas] father lived for nearly seventy years on one farm in Franklin township, where he died in 1883, at the mature age of eighty five years. Samuel Kistler was twice married, first to Miss Fink, who bore him eighteen children, thirteen of whom grew to maturity ... His second marriage was with Eva S. Klingensmith, widow of Lewis Klingensmith and daughter of John Loughner, who, by her former marriage, had two children, Cyrus and Lewis, and who bore Mr. Kistler five children, viz.: Jonas M.; Phoebe R., wife of James P. "The Kistlers are an old Westmoreland county family, the first of the name here having been Samuel Kistler, grandfather of Hannah L. (Kistler) Carroll, who presumably emigrated from Germany. Samuel and Catherine (Fink) Kistler were married June 22, 1820, and the latter named died February 3, 1855. After the death of his first wife, Samuel Kistler married Eve Susanna Loughner, who bore him five children." v.2, p.608, 1906
"Samuel Kistler was born in Northampton county, Pennsylvania, in 1799. He was a very prominent man in his day and community, and was honored by election to various local offices of trust and responsibility. He was united in marriage to Susanna Catherine Fink, and their children were as follows: Mary Ann, born 1821 ; Michael Fink, 1823; Samuel C., 1825, deceased : Jacob Borlin,1827, served all through the Civil war, and died in 1891 ; Josiah, 1829; Henry J., 1830; Paul Sebastian, April 18, 1832, mentioned hereinafter : Margaret Magdalene, 1834, deceased ; Susan Catherine, 1836, deceased ; Lydia, 1838, wife of Peter Frizzell; Sarah Priscilla, 1840; Agnes, March, 1842, wife of Levi Glunt, of Export; and Anna Louise, 1844, wife of John Carroll, resides near Irwin. Mrs. Kistler died February, 1854. Mr. Kistler married for his second wife Susan Laughner, and the issue of this union was five children: Jonas Maclin, a resident of Homestead; Eli, a resident of Irwin; Phoebe, wife of James Heckman, of McKeesport; Fannie, wife of Stephen Stockler, of Allegheny county; and Emma, wife of Josiah E. Klingsmith, of Jeannette. The father of these children died April, 1884." v.3, p.426, 1906
