1850 Census: Almond, ALLEGANY, NY, USA, 67, MA as Samuel S. Jackman, Claremont S Jackman. This gentleman, one of Janesville's prominent and capable financiers, is of English ancestry and Revolutionary stock. The earliest American progenitor of his family emigrated from "Old" to "New" England in early Colonial days, and our subject's great-grandfather served in the patriot army led by Washington, and later in the State militia of Massachusetts. The paternal grandfather of Mr. Jackman, Stillman Jackman, was born in the "Bay State," but removed thence to New Hampshire, where he died at the age of sixty-five years, the father of four children.
