Samuel3 (Capt. and Dea.), b. 1679-'84; m. 1st, Mary Jagger [dau. of Jeremiah Jagger], March 29, 1704-5, and 2d, Elizabeth Clason [wid. of Jonathan Clason of S.]; lived in Stamford; d. 1766 or '7. Wife Mary was a memb. S. chh. in 1746, and d. after that date. Sam. Hait, Benj's son, bought house and home-lot in S. for £30 cash, Sept. 11, 1707. His ear-mark was rec. at S. in 1705. He rec'd land from his brother-in-law, Jeremiah Jagger, of S., son of Jer. Jagger, dec'd., April 18, 1705; and land was laid out to him on the right of Jeremy Jagger, dec'd, May, 1709. Land given him by his father was mentioned in 1705; and his father gave Benj. Jr. and Sam. all his right in Sequest land, Feb., 1726-7. Sam. bought and sold a large amount of real estate during his life. On the S. land records he is called "Jr." a few times, 1709-14; but his name usually has "Ben's son," or "weaver," or both, written after it, on the 20 or 30 deeds from 1706 to 1720; and after 1720 he was usually called "Capt." By vote of the town in 1723 he was to sit in the second pew. He was Dea. of the S. chh. before 1746, and represented S. in the Gen. Court, in 1727, '28, '29, '33, and '34. His is probably the "worshipfull Samll Hait Esq." who was Clerk of Probate in S., 1746-'41; who was Justice of the Peace, 1735-'46, and perhaps later. … He was selectman of S. for 17 years, first in 1716; on various committees; guardian of minors, etc. His will was date June 9, 1761, proved Feb. 23, 1767. His wife Eliz. made a will, Dec. 26, 1760, proved May 5, 1767. In it she mentioned her only son, Jonathan Clason, Jr.; and her three daus., Elizabeth, wife of Thomas Starr; Mary, wife of Amos Weed, and Sarah, wife of Nathan Middlebrook; also her granddaus., Hannah and Prudence Hait (under 21 years).
