    "4. Samuel3 Hitchcock (John2, Luke1) son of Dea. John and Hannah (Chapin) Hitchcock, was born in Springfield, Mass., Aug. 21, 1672. He resided in New Milford, Conn. He married Sarah Weller who was horn in Deerfield, Mass., April 15, 1678. She was the daughter of John and Mary (Alvord) Weller. Springfield records say, 'came and entered his intentions of marriage with Sarah Weller of Northampton and was published the same day, Oct. 15, 1698.' Northampton records add that he was 'married by Samuel Stoddard Nov. 17, 1695.'

    The History of New Milford, Conn. states: 'Samuel Hitchcock & his wife Sarah came from Springfield and settled in New Milford, Conn., in 1713. He united with the church in New Milford, Nov. 17, 1716. He was one of the solid men of the town,—a leader in introducing & raising cattle.' He died Dec. 9, 1727. His widow, Sarah, died April 13, 1761.
