This apparently is the Sam Graves who was referred to as owning a bar in Mingus. He was the uncle of Samuel Meads Graves. It is not known what this Samuel M. Graves' middle name stands for, although it might mean his mother, "Mary A. ....", could be a member of a Meads family.

There is, in the Old Gordon Cemetery, the grave of Rosa L. Graves, b. 5 May 1861, died 8 May 1890, who is listed as the "Wife of S. M. Graves," so this could have been his first wife, since he married Emma Green in 1891.
