(Medical):Suffered from rheumatism, chronic diarreah, heart disease, kidney problems. Suffered three broken ribs from being injured by grape shot in a battle in Virginia.

Enlisted: 15 September 1861, was listed as sick/absent at the time of muster out, Signed up for a three-year term. Wounded at Battle of the Wilderness He was captured during fighting near Petersburg, Virginia and imprisoned at Andersonville for three and a half months, when the prisoners were relocated to Salisbury as a result of Union forces nearing the camp. He spent nearly three more months imprisioned at Salisbury before being exchanged. He was honorably discharged.
