He was named a Selectman of Dover in 1705. moved about 1717 into Oyster River Parish where he helped organize the church April 3, 1718. Chosen deacon and elder 16 in November 1721. He was also captain of a foot company on the north side of the Oyster River May 12, 1718.

   "4. Samuel² Emerson (Michael¹), born at Haverhill February 2, 1663-4; … He was apprenticed to John Simmons and gave testimony in a suit of his 'master' March 23, 1680-1. (Essex Court Files.) After a few years' residence at Haverhill he bought of Jonathan Meder, November 14, 1697, land in Dover, N. H., — 'on the Oyster River,' another tract on the west side of the Back River, and removed to that place. He was a selectman, constable, deacon and afterward 'ruling elder' of the church, captain of a foot company on the north side of Oyster River May 12, 1718. … He and his wife joined in the organizing of the church in Durham in 1718, and he was its first deacon. He bought land in Durham, N. H., in 1732 and conveyed it to his son Solomon in 1739. He made his will March 13, 1739, and it was proved August 31, 1743. He gave his property to his wife Judith, children Timothy, Solomon, Abigail, wife of Robert Thompson, the children of his deceased son Micah namely: Samuel, Hannah and Abigail, and the children of deceased daughter Hannah, viz., Samuel and Job Clemons."
