    Samuel “To-cal-en-je-sah” Bundy
Birth: 17 Mar 1835 Indiana, USA
Death: 7 Apr 1875 (aged 40) Indiana, USA
Burial: Miami Indian Cemetery, Fox, Grant County, Indiana, USA
    Memorial #: 91258186
Bio: Samuel was the son of the Peter (Waupahetah) Bundy (b.1814, d.1897) and Jane "Yellow Leaf" Ozahshinquah (b.1809, d.1877). He was a (Full Blooded) Miami Indian of Indiana who was named "To-cal-en-je-sah".About 1855 Samuel married Julia Ann "Ke-che-cc-me-quah" who was also a Full Blooded - Miami Indian. They had 5 children they named: George Gregg (Me-ze-quah), Sarah (Ah-to-con-gah), John (Wa-we-com-oh), Mary (Waw-mom) and (To-pe-con-qah) Bundy.Note: Source - Edwin McGuire in April 2013Samuel Bundy is not Peter Bundy's biological son. The general concensus is that Peter did adopt him before he married Jane Slocum. In the Luke Sheer papers in Miami OK, there is reference to a Gregiore Bundy 1815?-1845? as a brother to Peter who was the father of Samuel. He could also have been the father of Jackson Bundy. They were both on the 1850 census living in Peter's home.Cemetery Notes:Miami Indian Cemetery was originally called the Bundy Cemetery. It is the largest Indian cemetery in Indiana. Few of the graves in the cemetery are marked. The Indians buried here are largely descendants of Chief Metocinya and include Meshingomesia and his family. The first burial was probably in 1873. Burial was contrary to Indian tradition and reflects Christian influence.Bundy Researcher's Note:This is NOT the Samuel C Bundy born on 17 Mar 1835; died on 7 Apr 1875 and is buried in the West Union Cemetery located in Monrovia, Morgan Co., Indiana. The BIO of that Samuel's father clearly identifies his family line as English.
