One of the descendants of Samuel has listed his parents as Samuel and Sarah. While initially I could not find anything to clearly match this up I will say that this persons work on the Borrill family has so far been able to be verified with records and it appears in some cases that he may have accessed copies of the original records and as I have verified further information it is all looking correct.

  • Based on the 1841 census, Samuel was born in about 1771. However in this census for anyone over 15 their age was rounded down to nearest 5 year interval.
  • Having now found Samuel, spelt Samuell on the 1851 census, his place of birth is listed as Redbourne, Lincolnshire, England and this links into a birth for what would be his brother James in Redbourne with the parents being Samuel and Sarah.

Previous research in attempting to find Samuel's birth found that;

  • The records in FamilySearch provide a christening record for a Samuel Borrill in 1771 in nearby Yorkshire and his father is Samuel Burrill.
  • There is also a family in Swineshead, Lincolnshire with children (no Samuel) born during the early 1770's. This family has the parents listed as Samuel Borrill and Mary.
  • About a century earlier there was at least one Borrill family in Great Limber or as it was known then, Limber-Magna. It is possible that readily available records on the internet do not account for a family that remained in Limber-Magna for generations.
