[edit] Information on Samuel BaldwinFrom "Richard Butt, Botetourt and Berkeley County, VA: For $2,229 Richard Butt bought from the heirs of Samuel Baldwin a 418-acre tract on Catawba Creek, a branch of the James River. Neighbors with adjoining land listed in the plat description were Matthew Harvey, William Greenwood, Kessler and Sivert. The 418-acre tract had been owned by Samuel Baldwin since 1779, and upon Baldwin's death his children had moved to Montgomery County, Kentucky and wanted to sell the land they inherited.
