Facts and Events
Listed in the 1860 Cherokee County, Texas Census, enumerated July 25, page 140, Beat 6, Dwelling 935, Household 935 as William Cole, age 30, farmer, born AL. With wife Viney, age 30, born AL; daughter Nancy, age 5, born TX; daughter Amanda, age 3, born TX. Living next door to an H. J. Wilson and family, age 32, born KY. Nearby is Thos H. Martin, age 42, born SC, and family. Other Cole's, possibly brothers, in Cherokee County: Benjamin and Frank. There are an Andrew and Mary Cole, with children, listed in the 1850 Tishomingo County, Mississippi Census, along with their children, including a Samuel Cole, age 20. All but the last 2 children are listed as born in TN. Perhaps this is our Samuel Cole? The notes appear to say, "Fought in the Civil War, moved to Texas died in 1860." This, however, doesn't fit chronologically. It is possible the notes actually say "1868." Was patented with 320 acres of land in Nacogdoches District, Angelina County, Texas on December 11, 1860. There are records of a William P. Cole marrying a Vina M. Martin on 7/2/1854 in Pontontoc County, MS. Perhaps his name is really Samuel William Tell Cole? |
