Kinston (NC) Free Press, 6 Apr 2006:

Sallie Shafer Jackson GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Sallie Shafer Jackson, died Thursday, March 30, 2006, in Greenville, NC. She was the only child of Evelyn Mann and Lawton Barker Shafer of Brockport, N.Y. Her husband of 39 years, Dr. William Manning Jackson of Rochester, N.Y. preceded Mrs. Jackson in death. Surviving her are five daughters, Sallie Jean Jackson Exum of Kinston, N.C., Judith Ellyn Jackson Teegardin of Rochester, N.Y., Elizabeth Allen Jackson Macomber of Clearwater, Fla., Patricia Manning Jackson Williamson of Huron, Ohio, and Jane Randall Jackson Chiavelli of Boston, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A native of Brockport, N.Y., and a recipient of the highest award in Girl Scouting, Mrs. Jackson graduated from the University of Rochester School of Nursing. She and Dr. Jackson raised their family in Rochester, N.Y. Following her husband’s death, she moved to North Carolina, living many years in Fearrington Village near Chapel Hill before moving to Cypress Glen where she enjoyed her last seven years. Friends and relatives knew Sallie Jackson as a lady in every way, nonetheless enjoying a lively, competitive nature. Many will remember her as someone who loved games of all kinds, but perhaps will recall her best as one who excelled in spirited rounds of croquet and duplicate bridge. She was especially instrumental in establishing a Duplicate Bridge Club at Cypress Glen. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8 for her family and her special friends at Cypress Glen. Mrs. Jackson will be interred next to her late husband in the Memory Garden of Christ Episcopal Church in Pittsford, N.Y. The family hopes that instead of sending flowers, those wishing to remember Sallie Jackson in a memorial, might make donations to the Benevolent Fund at Cypress Glen Retirement Community, 100 Hickory St., Greenville, NC 27858. Arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home & Crematory.
