The children born to my parents were five in number, Nancy, Sallie, John, William, and James. One of these, Sallie, was early removed by death. In the house of a neighbor, where no one was present but children, her clothes took fire. It was an affecting sight and one I can never forget, to see her enveloped in flames and running homeward, the wind blowing the flames about her. In a few brief hours her piercing cries were hushed in the stillness of death.
