NAME: Went by Allen.

RESIDENCES: Lived in Pierre, North Dakota (??), ran a hotel and usually worked in sawmills. After Civil War went to Ohio and then Young America, Indiana, probably met wife there and raised children, then moved to Washington Twp., Grant Co., Indiana. Lived in Galveston, Indiana (Washington and California Streets) around 1902. (From handwritten autobiographies of Melville and Margaret Phillips.)

MILITARY SERVICE: Mounted infantry in Civil War, Corporal in Co. D, 39th Indiana Infantry, enlisted 29 August 1861, discharged 29 July 1865, fought with Sherman.

DEATH: Died in the soldiers home in Marion, Indiana.

BURIAL: Galveston Cem., Galveston, Cass, Indiana
