STREATOR- Ruth E. "Betty" Woodrich 93 of Streator died Saturday afternoon (Nov. 23, 2013) at Heritage Health, Streator
Funeral services will be held at Noon Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, Streator with Rev. Jerry Haley, officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM-Noon Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Streator. Hagi Funeral Home, Streator is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Woodrich was born May 31, 1920 in Dana, the daughter of Roy and Mildred (Crumrine) Roth. She married Russell "Woody" Woodrich, July 23, 1966. He preceded her in death Oct. 10, 1996.
Betty had been employed as a secretary at Owens-Illinois Glass Co., Streator for 37 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and a charter member and treasurer of the former Hope United Methodist Church, both of Streator. Betty had been very active in politics, serving on the LaSalle County Board, District 25 for 20 years and was a member of the LaSalle Co. Republican Women, member of the Executive Committee of the Republican Central Committee of LaSalle County, Farm Ridge Home Extension, member of the Advisory Board on Aging in Western Illinois, Streator Leading Ladies, the Professional Secretaries International and was a certified lay speaker of the United Methodist Church.
She attended Dana Grade School and was a graduate of Dana High School, class of 1938.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce (James) Spachman, Riverside and Beverly (Terry) Clarkson, Glendale AZ, a daughter-in law, Cheryl Spires, Pontiac, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one brother, Robert (Ardell) Roth, Lincoln NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Judge Randy Spires and two daughters, Barbara Biroschik and Janet Woodrich.
Pallbearers will be sons-in-law Jim Spachman, Terry Biroschik and Terry Clarkson and grandsons, Jim and Jon Spachman and Brett Spires.
Memorials may be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
