Ruth Eloise Mains, 93, of Dexter passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at the Stuart Community Care Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 29, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services in Glendon Cemetery in rural Guthrie Center Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ruth Mains Memorial Fund. Ruth was born July 13, 1919, in rural Guthrie County, Iowa, to Fredrick Earl and Julia Ina Moorehead Mitchell. As a child the family lived in rural Guthrie County and Missouri before settling near Glendon. She attended rural Guthrie grade schools and graduated from Panora High School with the class of 1937. Following her graduation, Ruth earned her teaching certificate and taught in rural grade schools. She was united in marriage to William Edmund Mains on September 25, 1940 in Guthrie County. Most of their marriage was spent in Guthrie and Dallas County. Ruth was a farm wife for several years and was also employed at the Randolph's Egg Farm and at Adel Acres as a cook for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Glendon Club, MAO Club and card playing group. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, baking, camping and spending quality time with her family and friends. Ruth also enjoyed bowling and was a past state champion within her age group.

She is preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband William, two sons, Gary and Kenny, siblings, Gertrude, Skip, Thelma, Bernita, Murph, Jean and two infant siblings, two grandsons, Greg Evans and Bradley Mains and two great grandsons, Daniel Jones and Baby Boy Mains.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her beloved children, Bill (Barb) Mains of Redfield, Marilyn (Paul) Jones of Menlo, Patsy (Neil) Evans of Earlham, Chuck (Cindy) of Redfield, Kevin (Lisa) of Redfield, Douglas Mains of Dexter; 11 Grandchildren, Bryan Mains, Rob Jones, Jeff Evans, Rodney Jones, Jason Mains, Jeremy Mains, Joe Mains, Brenda Meisenheimer, Robin Younger, Marisa Mains, Destiny Mains; 22 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild; sister-in-law, Doris Mitchell; brother-in-law, John Milton and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly.
