• possible parents = Rodgor of Kemerijk and Unknown. Suggested by Wikipedia. Proof/Source needed.

• 1021 - Rutger and his brother Gerard Antoing complain to Emperor Henry II about land they lost in the county of Ename when Baldwin IV, Count of Flanders, conquered it.¹

• 1033 - Emperor Conrad II gives Rutger the county of Cleves and thereby the title "Count of Cleves".²

• 1047 - Dirk I van Kleef is mentioned as Count of Cleves.² Better source needed.

• Rutger I was eventually succeeded by his son, Rutger II.¹

   Rutger I (ca. 970 - rond 1050) was de eerste graaf van Kleef van ±1033 tot 1050. Hij was getrouwd met Wazela van Lotharingen en was een broer van Gerard van Antoing.
