Russell Lloyd “Rusty” Anderson, 92, was born on August 6, 1921, in Worthington, Minnesota, the son of Ross and Marian Mitchell Anderson. He grew up in Round Lake, Minnesota. Rusty married Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Beal on January 27, 1944, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rusty graduated from Round Lake High School in 1940. He went on to serve in the US Army Air Corps in 1942. He was stationed at McCarran Field/Indian Springs Gunnery School in Las Vegas; Camp Livingston, Louisiana; and then the European Theater during World War II. On his return from the service in 1946, he and Betty farmed with his Uncle Arvid Sampson, and then on their own until their son, Larry was old enough to drive a tractor. The two enjoyed farming together for many years. In December 1984, he and Betty retired and moved to Round Lake. Rusty continued to enjoy helping Larry on the farm as much as he could.
Russell served as Trustee and Elder at the First Presbyterian Church, was an active member of The American Legion Charles Flentje Post 461, served on the Farmer’s Coop Elevator Board, walked with the Round Lake Walkers, and kept active in the Senior Center. He rarely missed morning coffee with his friends.
Rusty always enjoyed spending time with the love of his life, Betty, family and friends. When he was not farming, he enjoyed traveling, square dancing, camping, woodworking, fishing, and last but not least… driving his golf cart around town greeting neighbors and friends.
Rusty passed away on September 23, 2013 at South Shore Care Center in Worthington. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one nephew.
Rusty is survived by his wife Betty of Worthington, Minnesota; Five children; Linda (Kurt) Lintelman of Round Lake, Susan (Dave) Krahmer of Omaha, Nebraska, Kathy (Larry) Sather of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Larry (Donna) Anderson of Worthington and Elise (Craig) von Holdt of Anchorage, Alaska.
