"A Rufus Stacy settled here about 1731, and had a wife and children. Concerning him, Rev. John Rogers makes the following entry in an interleaved almanac of 1758, against the date of July 13: 'News comes of Capt. Samuel Day] and Rufus Stacy being taken by the Indians this day week in their fishing boat;' and again, the 15th: 'The above news confirmed by the arrival of Nathan Patch, who liked to have shared the same fate.'"
