Rufus Marcus appears on a Company Muster-in Descriptive Roll as a Private in Company H, Infantry Regiment, of Thomas' Legion, North Carolina Troops. A volunteer who enlisted in Cherokee County, North Carolina for Colonel W. H. Thomas' Legion and Indians, and Highlanders, North Carolina Volunteers, for the local defense of the Carolinas, East Tennesee, Southwestern Virginia, and the Cumberland Mountains. Roll dated 23rd, July 1862 at Ft. Montgomery, Cherokee County, NC.
