Facts and Events
WINF: Y
"Reuben Winfrey came from Kentucky. He didn't really know when he was born, the date on his monument is (probably) not correct. He could not read nor write - had stroke and could not talk for last 14 years! Someone (probably had help) managed to get away with much of his money! He was dark complexioned and had Indian features and traits - tall man"
(Research):Thanks so much for all the information; it certainly does help. I don't have very much and, like you, can't vouch for it's absolute accuracy. My source is a cousin from Missouri also descended from Reuben and Catherine.
I have Reuben born 5/14/1847 or 48(see note below)in Kentucky; died 5/10/1931 in Stoutland, MO. First wife (Annie Belle Lousetta) Catherine Craft(all of these names are on her tombstone-I have photograph which I might be able to send via email) born 3/7/1859; died 10/11/1894 in Stoutland, MO. Her parents were William D. Craft and Sarah Alice (member of the Oneida Tribe, Iroquois Nation-Indian name Star Eagle-I have photograph of her also).
Reuben's second wife was Mary Burke (photograph); they had no children.
- Note on Reuben. This is from a note from my cousin, Reuben's granddaughter. "Reuben Winfrey came from Kentucky. He didn't really know when he was born, the date on his monument is (probably) not correct. He could not read nor write - had stroke and could not talk for last 14 years! Someone (probably had help) managed to get away with much of his money! He was dark complexioned and had Indian features and traits - tall man"
I have a complete listing of Reuben and Catherine's children and grandchildren if you would like that information also. Let me know. Am very glad to exchange any information that I can.
