When I met Ron he was working as a programmer for Harris County Auditor's Office where the computer section of the county was located at in 1971. I was working for Harris County Adult Probation Dept. as laison to the Auditor's Office while they installed a new computer system to track payments that the probationer's paid. Ron was the programmer and we worked overtime for several months accomplishing the conversions to the system. Ron and I fell in love and got married in January of 1972.
We moved to California for a couple of years to experience a different lifestyle and decided that we liked Houston better and returned shortly after our first child, Christopher Nicholas was born in 1974. We lived with his mom, Carolyn, for a while until we got resettled.
Around 1978 we bought 5 acres in Waller, TX, Field Store Community and built our first home. Unfortunately, the freeway was being built shortly after that and it was a torturous drive from downtown Houston to our home, taking 1-1/2 hr to 3 hours each way, so we sold and moved into the city. We bought a house at 7915 West Rd. in the Carriage Lane subdivision where Jennifer Frances was born in March 1982. We lived there for 9 years. While at this house Ron decided to become a contractor and start his own company. He was very successful at it and earned a steady, comfortable living and was able to learn a system that large companies paid very well for. We moved to 15902 Singapore Lane in Jersey Village in Sept. 1990.
We believe that Ron had leukemia because of an experience when he was in the army. He was ordered to participate in an experiment where the unit had to wear gas masks and different types of gas were released into a tent where the men were. They had to remain there until they determined that the unit would no longer be an effective fighting unit. The gas masks became ineffective after their beards grew out. The only gas that Ron remembered the name of was tear gas, but he said there were many types. He had no leukemia in his family.
