Facts and Events
Roger was raised mainly by his uncle Fred Beatty, near Epworth, Dubuque county, Iowa . Soon after gradution he join the Civilian Conservation Corp. until he could join the navy. He joined the navy and served on several ships during WW II. The first ship that he was stationed on was the USS Colorado. Some of the other ships encluded the USS Iowa and the USS Albany. Roger was stationed at Norfolk, Virginia and was transfered to Colorado Springs, Colorado in about 1954. After 20 years he retired from the navy while stationed at Colorado Springs, Colorado. He and his family then moved to Monticello, Jones county, Iowa. His retirement was in 1957. Roger then went to work as a guard at the reformatory in Anamosa, Iowa. He later took the position as cheif of police for Monticello, Iowa. He then purchased a trucking business and also purchased a service station which he and his son ran. He sold the service station to his son and continued to operate the trucking business until his death. References
