In 1882 Roderick entered into partnership with William D. Forbes to form Forbes & Curtis, a manufacturer of machine tools in Bridgeport, Connecticut. After Forbes withdrew from business in 1887, Roderick was joined by his brother and the firm became known as Curtis & Curtis.
