The ancestry of Rodeham Moore is uncertain. An old family tradition states that he was born in Ireland in 1744, though the Moores were believed to be Scots, not Irish. Recent research now suggests that it might have been Rodeham's great grandfather James Moore who immigrated to this country in the 1600s. Whatever the truth of his origins, he was living in Patrick County, Virginia with his wife Elizabeth Gallahue in 1771 when their first child William was born. Rodeham and Elizabeth had at least 8 children. After Rodeham's death his widow moved to Hawkins County, Tennessee where several of her children had moved. Elizabeth died there in Mooresburg and is interred in the Moore/Dickson Cemetery.
