1901 - With parents in Tharston, aged 5. 1914 - Enlisted in the army c16th November at Northallerton to serve with the 5th (Reserve) Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Labour Corps also found in papers). Note - it is possible that this relates to a different Robert James Womack as there's no date of birth in surviving records to confirm it. Service no. 225049 ?? (PRO: WO363/W2171) 1916 - Received a gun shot wound to his head and right eye. Transferred to hospital in London and had an artificial eye fitted. (PRO: WO363/W2171) 1918 - Living with his mother in Carleton Forehoe - letter from army returning some of his property. (PRO: WO363/W2171) 1919 - Discharged from the army as no longer fit to serve.
